Scrive bene Stefano Menichini nel suo editoriale di martedì su Europa, le critiche che vengono mosse a Matteo Renzi in queste settimane -in maniera più sistematica da quando il Segretario del Pd e Nichi Vendola hanno ufficializzato la loro candidatura per le primarie - sono assolutamente strumentali.

Il Segretario di Sel ha inaugurato la sua campagna elettorale accusando il giovane sfidante di aderire a “modelli culturali vecchi, improntati al liberismo e che dunque dovrebbero essere rottamati”, lasciando parte dell’elettorato sgomento a domandarsi se quelle parole fossero state pronunciate nel 2012 o se la lancetta del tempo fosse tornata indietro fino al 1969.
C’è solo un aspetto su cui Renzi sarebbe veramente attaccabile, scrive Menichini, la sua incapacità di compattare il partito, di unire, di far sì che le sue posizioni vengano legittimate dall’assemblea. Il rottamatore infatti si tiene ben distante dai simboli, da colori che possano in qualche modo richiamare al passato di quella parte politica che con veste rinnovata si candida a rappresentare. Ma siamo sicuri che questa presunta incapacità, a fini elettorali, sia un punto debole e non una decisone strategica sapientemente studiata? Renzi corre da solo, spariglia le carte distribuendo calci al passato senza distinguo troppo sottili. Il Sindaco di Firenze più di qualsiasi altro uomo di partito, ha capito che la politica nell’immaginario dei cittadini, è rimasta chiusa tra le mura dell’autoreferenzialità e che per marcare veramente la differenza con i suoi sfidanti non è sull’età che deve puntare, piuttosto è sulla sua lontananza rispetto a quegli ambienti che oggi vengono visti solo come luoghi deputati alla spartizione del potere. Se finalizzato alla creazione del consenso, questa sorta di snobismo al contrario non può che pagare.
È da contestualizzare in questo quadro anche l’eloquio arrogante, impertinente e sognatore; sono da inserire in questo disegno le minacce di pensionamento mosse contro un D’Alema che, rimanendo anacronisticamente sospeso nel tempo, non gli risparmia critiche tanto feroci quanto immotivate. Non sarà certo grazie a questo atteggiamento che il Paese tornerà a crescere, che si creeranno nuovi posti di lavoro, che si risolverà il problema degli esodati o che riusciremo a tagliare la spesa pubblica, ma è sicuramente anche grazie a questa spinta verso una politica (almeno negli intenti) diversa, che si ridarà speranza a chi veramente, più del futuro capo di governo, dovrà impegnarsi per modificare quotidianamente questo Paese: i cittadini.
Possiamo dolercene ma dobbiamo prenderne atto; viviamo in un momento in cui è diventato più importante dare un segno tangibile del cambiamento piuttosto che dimostrare la propria capacità strategica nella guida del paese. Ed è inutile che i dirigenti della vecchia guardia gridino allo scandalo, se il cambiamento fosse stato un processo endogeno alla politica non ci sarebbe stato bisogno di creare quello che dai più viene vissuto come un lacerante strappo.
Non esiste una scala di valori che l’elettore consulterà prima di recarsi alle urne, come non esiste il paventato duello tra contenuti programmatici e capacità comunicative; l’unico terreno su cui si sfidano i candidati, è la visione sul futuro del Paese. Il Sindaco di Firenze ha osato non rispondere a quel richiamo verso il minoritarismo che ha da sempre relegato il centro sinistra sul gradino del secondo arrivato, ma con dignità, come direbbe qualcuno. Oggi la dignità non basta più. Bisogna convincere, scatenare entusiasmi e riappassionare i delusi immaginando proposte nuove, perché nuovo è il mondo in cui ci siamo risvegliati dopo anni di letargo. I metodi di Renzi, forse, sono ancora indigesti alla maggioranza del partito, ma sareste pronti a dire lo stesso della maggioranza degli elettori?

Communication efficacy and clear goals: Matteo Renzi's strategy at the primaries
Stefano Menichini is quite right in his Tuesday editorial on Europa, the criticism towards Matteo Renzi during these last few weeks - in a more systematic way since the Secretary of PD and Nichi Vendola have made their candidacy to the primaries official - are absolutely instrumental. Not only they do not make Florence's Mayor weaker, they reinforce him by creating a series of appointed defensors that probably until some time ago weren't even so convinced they supported him. When you think in closed departments, it happens that dialectics crashes on the wall of predefined, granitical positions. The accusation of copying some points of the ufficial party program launched by Stefano Fassina, sounds bizarre to the least; many have wondered whether the economical responsible for PD knew that Renzi doesn't candidate himself with Lega Nord, and that maybe it would be stranger to see the contrary, that the programs of the two candidates were too different on some fundamental topics.
The SEL secretary has started his elections campaign by accusing the young challenger of adopting "old cultural models, steeped in liberism and that should be eliminated", leaving part of the voters amazed wondering whether those words were uttered in 2012 or time had gone back to 1969.
There's only one aspect on which Renzi would truly be vulnerable, writes Menichini, which is his incapacity of making the party compact, of uniting, making sure that his positions are legitimated by the assembly. He keeps himself away from symbols, from colors that can remind the part of the political page that with a new coat he is candidated to represent. But are we sure that this alleged incapacity, in an elections logic, is a weakness and not a strategic decision which has been carefully studied? Renzi runs alone, confuses the cards and kicks the past without too fine distinctions. Florence's mayor, more than any other party man, has understood that the politics in the immagination of citizens is still closed in the walls of autoreferenciality and that in order to truly make the difference he mustn't point on the age, but on his distance from those environments that today are only seen as places where power is managed. If finalized to the creation of consent, this sort of backwards snobism will probably be profitable.
In this optic we must also contextualize the arrogant, impertinent and dreamy speech; in this design we must look at the retirement threats against D'Alema who, by remaining anachronistically suspended in time, doesn't save him critics that are as ferocious as they are unmotivated. It won't be thanks to this behavior that the country will start growing again, that new jobs will be created, that the problem of esodati will be solved, or the public expenses cut down, but it is surely thanks to this push towards a different politics that they will give hope to those who, more than government members, will have to work to modify this country daily: the citizens.
We can dislike it, but we need to acknowledge it; we live in a moment in which it has become important to give a tangible sign of change rather than demonstraing the strategic capacity in guiding the country. And it's useless that the leaders of the old guard shout to the scandal, if change had been an endogenous process in politics, there would have been no need of creating what is lived by most as a tearing break.
There is no scale of values that the voter will consult before going to vote, as there is no alleged duel between programmatic content and communication capacities; the only ground on which the candidates fight is their vision of the future of this Country. Florence's mayor has dared not to respond to that recall towards minoritarism that has always relegated the left wing on the second arrived step, but with dignitiy, as some would say. Today dignity is not enough anymore. You must convince, set off enthusiasms, and bring passion to the disappointed by imagining new proposals, because new is the world in which we've woken up after years of hybernation. Renzi's methods are perhaps still distasteful to most of the party, but would you be ready to say the same about the majority of voters?
