Non credevo ai miei occhi: c’erano poliziotti, carabinieri e finanzieri ovunque che bloccavano ogni accesso alla zona, circondata da un numero imprecisato di automezzi delle forze dell’ordine. Una vera e propria azione militare.
Accadeva esattamente 20 anni fa, il 9 marzo, al quinto palazzo ENI in quel di San Donato Milanese; era l’inizio dell’indagine su quella che verrà ricordata negli annali come la “madre di tutte le tangenti” di Tangentopoli e che portò al terremoto politico che tutti conosciamo. E io ero lì, nell’epicentro.
L’allora presidente dell’ENI Gabriele Cagliari fu condotto in manette in carcere proprio quella mattina, dal quale uscì qualche mese dopo solo per essere condotto direttamente al cimitero a causa di un suicidio sul quale rimasero troppe ombre.
Il 9 marzo 2013 invece si sono celebrati i funerali di David Rossi; una curiosa coincidenza, ma non l’unica in queste due vicende parallele con molte similitudini e molti interrogativi irrisolti.
Questa volta però c’è una telecamera della sicurezza che riprende l’ex responsabile della comunicazione di MPS mentre precipita dal terzo piano di Rocca Salimbeni, al termine di una lunghissima e misteriosa telefonata ricevuta nel tardo pomeriggio.
L’ipotesi più accreditata sembra quella di istigazione al suicidio e di fortissime pressioni subite negli ultimissimi giorni di vita. Gli investigatori trovano una scrivania in perfetto ordine su cui poggiano incartamenti ordinati e un cd musicale, coerente con l’immagine di persona rigorosa, riflessiva e analitica che accompagnava David Rossi. Ora passeranno al setaccio SMS e chiamate rimasti sui quattro telefoni cellulari del Rossi (tra cui quello utilizzato per l’ultima telefonata), oltre a tutti i files e tutte le email (anche quelle cancellate) conservati sui suoi pc e sulle chiavette usb.
Ora veniamo ai lati oscuri della vicenda, a partire dal video che racconta di un salto nel vuoto con stile Fosbury, una dinamica decisamente inconsueta.
Prima di questo, David Rossi pranza sereno com la moglie e il fratello, quindi sul tardo pomeriggio avvisa la famiglia che sta rincasando: un comportamento piuttosto insolito per chi si sta per suicidare. Altre persone hanno confermato che quella mattina Rossi appariva per niente preoccupato. Poi però arriva la famosa telefonata che lo impegna per oltre un’ora, mentre quelle della moglie e del fratello rimangono senza risposta.
Nessuna parola alle persone più care: un comportamento che ha stupito lo stesso fratello della vittima: “ha preferito andarsene, così, senza neppure salutarmi e di questo sono molto incazzato“.
Alla moglie sembrano indirizzati tre biglietti di addio ritrovati nel suo ufficio e cestinati prima di riuscire a esprimere una frase di un certo significato. Verrebbe anche da chiedersi perché un manager con vari pc e quattro cellulari, forse cinque, nelle sue ultime ore di vita compie lunghe telefonate, manda SMS, ma per le parole più importanti della sua vita sceglie la trascrizione su carta. E le cestina.
La figlia Carolina viene mandata dalla madre perché suo padre si trova ancora nel suo ufficio quando, nonostante alcune ore prima aveva avvisato che stava rincasando. D’altronde, pare che Rossi abitasse a soli 500 metri dall’ufficio, circa 7 minuti a piedi. Quando arriva però è troppo tardi, perché per suo padre, caduto nel vuoto verso le 20,15, non c’è più nulla da fare.
Per lei e per il proprio fratello, pare che David Rossi di parole non ne abbia lasciate: anche questo è singolare.
Per quanto riguarda invece le indagini, perché limitarsi a prelevare alcuni files dal computer? E’ possibile che David Rossi, che evidentemente non era uno sprovveduto, non abbia pensato a conservare sul cloud una o più copie dei documenti più delicati, dopo un trattamento di criptatura? E’ ragionevole non escludere che il responsabile della comunicazione di MPS, la più antica banca del mondo e terza banca italiana, possa aver lasciato informazioni importanti su Dropbox o Skype? Bazzecole, per colui che aveva dovuto gestire la più grande crisi mediatica italiana dell’ultimo trentennio. Per anni era riuscito a nascondere gli affari torbidi di MPS e, contemporaneamente, a creare un’immagine positiva intorno al Gruppo (con 355 milioni di Euro spesi in pubblicità nel periodo 2006-2011).
Chi ha terrorizzato David Rossi? E’ difficile dirlo, perché a Rocca Salimbeni sono rappresentati più o meno tutti: partiti, Chiesa, Opus Dei e persino la massoneria. Gli inquietanti intrecci con la massoneria ci portano a Stefano Bisi, vicedirettore del Corriere di Siena nonché potentissimo capo della Massoneria toscana. Questa persona descrisse il “sistema Siena” come un ”groviglio armonioso di enti e società che fanno riferimento sostanzialmente al sindaco, al presidente della provincia, al presidente della Fondazione Monte dei Paschi e al presidente della Banca Mps“. Una macchina perfetta.
Non tutti però sanno che da tre anni Siena, centro nevralgico della massoneria italiana, è la culla della più grande guerra massonica che si sia mai vista.
Una guerra ben più grande di quella che scoppiò all’indomani dello scandalo P2, quello che costò la vita a Roberto Calvi, il “banchiere di Dio” il cui bizzarro suicidio non ha mai convinto: guarda caso, nel crack del Banco Ambrosiano erano rappresentati partiti, IOR e massoneria.
Una settimana dopo il ritrovamento del banchiere massone, morì suicida anche Graziella Corrocher, la sua segretaria personale, gettandosi dal quarto piano del banco Ambrosiano.
Finanza e media. Massoneria e media. Anche Roberto Calvi comprese l’importanza del controllo dell’informazione, tanto che nel 1981 riuscì a prendere il controllo di Rizzoli SpA.
Per rendere l’idea del controllo che David Rossi aveva sulla comunicazione del Gruppo MPS, basti guardare lo sbando totale in cui questa versa ora che è rimasto orfano del suo vertice: per esempio, perché David Rossi sul sito di MPS compare ancora come responsabile dell’area comunicazione?
Sono parecchi i commenti che leggo in rete da parte di persone perplesse sulle cause della morte di David Rossi e che si pongono interrogativi simili: sarà che in passato caffè letali e ponti dei frati neri ci hanno ispirato teorie complottiste, sarà per la singolare omonimia con il protagonista di Criminal Minds, ma è una di quelle situazioni in cui l’elaborazione razionale dei fatti si scontra inevitabilmente con le reazioni di pancia.
Per ora chiudo qui, con quella sensazione strana che, anche stavolta, non ne vedremo delle belle.

David Rossi and MPS, the same shadows 20 years later
I couldn't believe my eyes: there were policemen, carabinieri and men of the Finance Guard everywhere, blocking the access to the area, surrounded by an undefined number of police vehicles. A true and proper military action.
An absurde scene, a force display that I had only seen in the final scene of the movie The Blues Brothers. For me and my colleagues that was an unforgettable morning: all the accountability offices had been sealed, and the coincidence wanted that I worked exactly there at the time.
It was exactly 20 years ago, on the 9th of March, in the fifth ENI palace in San Donato Milanese; it was the beginning of an inquiry on what will be remembered in history books as the "mother of all bribes" of Tangentopoli and that led to the political earthquake that we all know very well. And I was there, in the middle of it.
The ENI president at that time, Gabriele Cagliari, was brought in jail that morning, and got out a few months later only to be brought to the cementery because of a suicide on which way too many shadows have remained.
On the 9th of March 2013 the funerals of David Rossi have been celebrated; a curious coincidence, but not tha only one in these two parallel stories with many similarities and many unresolved questions. This time there's a securty camera that shows the ex responsible of MPS communication while he falls from the third floor of Rocca Salimbeni, at the end of a long and misterious phone call received during the late afternoon.
The most probable hypothesis is suicide instigation and strong pressures during his last days of life. The detectives found a perfectly ordered desk on which ordered documents and a music cd are found, coherent with the image of a rigorous, reflexive and analytical person that accompanied David Rossi. Now they will look through his SMS and calls on his four or maybe five mobile phiones (and also the one he used for his last phone call), and also his files and emails (the deleted ones as well) saved on his computers and USB drives.
Now let's come to the obscure sides of the story, starting with the video of a jump in Fosbury style, a definitely unusual dynamic.
Before this, David Rossi has lunch with his wife and brother, and in the late afternoon tells them he's coming home: a quite unusual behavior for someone who is about to commit suicide. Other people have confirmed that during the morning Rossi didn't seem worried at all. Then the famous phone call comes, and lasts about one hour, while the calls from his wife and brother remain without an answer.
No words to his dear ones: something that has amazed the brother of the victim: "he preferred to just go away like that, without even saying goodbye, and that's something that makes me really upset."
The three goodbye notes found in his office seem written for his wife: they have been thrown away before managing to express anything of a certain meaning. We should ask ourselves why a manager with several computers and 4 mobile phones, or maybe 5, during his last hours of life makes long phone calls, sends messages, but for the most important words of his life chooses the transcription on paper. And throws them away.
His daughter Carolina is sent home because the father is still in his office, even though a few hours earlier he had said he was coming home. On the other hand, it seems that Rossi lived only 500m away from his office, about 7 minutes on foot. When she arrives it's too late, because for her father, who fell at around 20.15, there's nothing left to do. For her and for his brother, it seems that David Rossi didn't leave any words: this as well is quite unusual.
The editorial choice of showing images of a person left unconscious on the ground can offer added value to the news, beyond feeding the morbid curiosity of part of the readers? Must it take into account the risk that the sources might be taking? Must they inform the author of the pictures about what he or she is risking, even if convinced that it is sufficient to not publish the name?
Is it legitimate to think that, beyond the photos that were published, there were others that clearly identify the responsibles and that were given to the police? And what if the criminals were not as capable as I was in identifying the casual photographer, maybe accusing his neighbor? Judging from what is in the article, the newspaper wanted to maintain its sources anonymous, but evidently it has committed a big mistake.
There are many comments I've been reading online on behalf of perplexed people on the causes of David Rossi's death, who have asked similar questions: maybe because in the past lethal coffees and dark monks bridges have inspired conspiracy theories, maybe because of the singular omonimy with the protagonist of Criminal Minds, but it's one of those situations where the rational elaboration of facts is inevitably fighting the gut sensations.
For now I'll just close here, with that strange sensation that, yet again, it's not going to be pretty.
